Should be interesting, Cowboy Bob just got his insurance claim denied, the insurer for the 172 is going to want the repairs paid for by Cowboy Bob, The pilot is most likely off the hook and Cowboy Bob probably gets a ticket from the LEOs. Keep us posted on outcomes  this could be more fun than when the local outlaw biker clubhouse caught fire.

The road has signs on both sides of the runway warning drivers to yield to aircraft. The individual of questionable judgement driving the car is at fault. |

Impressive. Anybody know if the runway in question has a displaced threshold? If it did that would kinda put it on the pilot for being too low, but I don't want to throw rocks without more knowledge. That sort of thing isn't usually overlooked when designing airports....we have to have the FAA out periodically to survey our approach areas and see about possible hazards. I know, I have to escort them out there. -Brandon |

There is a displaced threshold, but this was a student pilot reportedly on his first solo flight (despite what the original article implies using the term "first solo round trip"), so being low, while not advisable, is at some level understandable if that is the case. Had the car not pulled out, he probably would have landed safely (if in the displaced runway area) and it would have been simply a teaching moment. |

Holy crap. We had the same type of incident happen in my town years ago. A PA-28 clipped an SUV on short final to a private airstrip. The SUV caught fire killing a father and his 14 year old daughter. Glad everyone was okay in this deal. Chappie |
