Post subject:  1968 Cleveland Air Race results?

Just wondering if anyone has seen the results of the 1968 Cleveland Air Races?

One of our Harvards, AJ583/C-FHWX was a racer earlier in its life, and is said to have won in the T-6 Class at Cleveland in 1968.

B&W photo of HWX that I colourized to illustrate the paint scheme.

Later blue & white racing scheme worn when CHAA acquired HWX:

HWX today:

I'm not wanting to dispute the fact, but rather would like to know the details about the race that year.
I have a copy of the program in our archives, but of course it focuses on the more glamorous aircraft. :)

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

From airrace.com is the following for the 1968 Cleveland National Air Races:
A new class bowed in, for stock North American AT-6s and SNJs and Harvard advanced trainers. A demonstration race at Reno in 1967 proved popular, and so they became a part of the program. Nineteen of these warbirds arrived, though only 12 could fit into the preliminary heat races. Top qualifier was Howard Keefe at 179.700 mph, second was Whit Halfhill at 179.104 mph. In the Finals, Hendrik Otzen won at 181.322 mph, Richard Sykes was second at 181.246 mph, and Phil Livingston was third at 180.980 mph. All their races were close and loud.

Thanks for the link airknocker!

Unfortunately, it looks as though the part you quoted was referring to the Reno races.
The section on Cleveland for 1968 has no mention of the AT-6/SNJ/Harvard class at all, even though it is mentioned briefly in the program I have.

Oops!! After shoveling over 12" of snow this week, I must have been a little lightheaded. I would drop a line to the Air Race Historians Society for possible info:

Good luck!

Was that Harvard based in Muskoka Ont. circa 1983? If not, do you know what the ID of the Harvard I refer was?

As far as I know, HWX was based in Ottawa in the in the early-mid eighties.

Not sure about the Muskoka Harvard, but I looked through my list and came up with only one Harvard based in central Ontario in 1983:
Mk 4 20236 - CF-GUY - registered to owner in nearby Bracebridge from 1969-91

Hopefully this is the one you are looking for.
