I agree with spanner. Looks like a lot of r.p.m. and no chocks. Wonder whose on the brakes. The crew chief is just look'in. Maybe you can set the brakes on a 51, I don't know.

Yeah, has the look of a vintage Kodachrome.
The prop may not have been turning all that fast. All depends upon the camera's shutter speed setting. If it was Kodachrome 25 (and I'll bet it was), 1/30 sec at f/16 is bright sun exposure, and the prop will be plenty blurred even at slower revs at 1/30 second.

Neat photo, and most people have no idea the story behind this series. These shots were of a dedicate photo mission and they were taken from the waist gun position of a 91st BG B-17. I don't know who the pilot of the camera ship was, but the co-pilot was a gentleman I made friends with in the 90s. He has since passed away but he did loan me color movie film he took from his window of these formations going by. I still am not sure what do with them but I do have them transferred to video. I just find it funny how often I see photos from that series, noted as "returning from a mission" when in fact it was specifically for the photos!
