My friend Capt Jim Edwards of the 356th FS chasing 3 FW-190s over France 1944.

Did he score any of them?

He scored 5 kills with the 356th FS but I don't recall if any were FW's on this mission or if these guys just wet their pants.
He once downed a ME-109 inverted on the deck after losing his canopy in the dive from 20'000 feet! Jim also flew 150
missions has a RAF Typhoon missions in 56 Squadron before transfering to the AAF.

Excellent info! Thank you Jack Good to note- it is not much taken attention to the Typhoon missions but have done good job, as I know.

56 Squadron was the first operational unit.
Their a/c had 3 bladed props and the auto type door.

I have image of the first sample, it have that interesting feature you mention.
