B17 in French service

This B17 flewinto Townsville airport, Queensland 1972. It was believed that it was in support of French nuclear testing. It had previously been used in geophysical work in South Africa. At the time that the photo was taken it was in immaculate condition.

Ex-351st Bomb Group 8AF combat veteran 44-8846, now based in France and better known as "Pink Lady".

Nice to see her looking tidy and businesslike in the 70s.

This plane was used by the "Institut Geographique Nationnal" (looks the IGN logo on the tail)
Basically used as "a camera ship" to survey, mapping and other geograpical work.
