this was my first Thunder Over Michigan. I love when they still taxiied by you like that. They still did that in 2006, but by 2008 they switched to the current configuration. That is why on arrivals day now I park on Ecorse. The planes come no where near you anymore when they taxi

that gorgeous P-40, i'd forgotten about it. i recall shooting some video of that one arriving at the GML. i was impressed! i see on airliners that: "NL9837A / 11456 (cn 15370) as the result of a stall, was involved in a fatal crash on 05 April 2009 into the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Long Island, NY, while practicing low level aerobatics. The owner / pilot did not survive, and to date, the aircraft has never been recovered." i remember the crash of course, but was wondering about it's recovery. Does anyone know if this is yet out of the drink, or is just too impossible to get to? i would imagine with 70 year old basket cases being fished out regularly that this would be relatively solid....

Looks like we were probably not much more than 20 feet apart. My taxi photos were taken in nearly the same spot and look almost identical to yours. We used to set up chairs on the fence line and then wander around until the flying started.
