BTW, before this GE bashing goes any further - GE and the other manufacturers actually lobbied against the new lightbulb legislation. It was the "Eco-Nazis" and the EPA that pushed for it - one problem, they traded a minor problem with incandescent bulbs for a much larger one in CFL's - mercury. Thankfully, that legislation will probably be repealed within this session of congress, so all of your "panic buying" will be for naught, although I switched to CFL's because with the way my apartment is wired, it saved me almost $50/month on my electric bill.

I am NOT bashing GE over CFL bulbs. I'M bashing EVERYONE who makes CFL bulbs for not only the reason cited by CAPFlyer but also my big gripe against them, they put out crap for light, they ARE NOT the direct replacement for the same wattage incandescent bulb, and I wasted $40 bucks on a halogen bulb for my bedside reading lamp and replaced it because it was like using a birthday cake candle to read by and was giving me headaches, I put it in the fridge and it made the fridge as dark as a cave, no wonder it'll last 40 years, it uses about 3 watts and gives out equivellent amounts of light.

CFL's have applications where they work very well, in a fridge isn't one of those applications. most CFL's have a warmup time with reduced light output and cold temps increase that time period. I have about 50% CFL's in my house and in rooms where the light is on for long periods of time they work fantastic.
