This is a short professional documentary about his Uncle Jack, a B-17 navigator in WWII. It is 16:51 minutes long but history is preserved, especially for you Air Force or Army Air Corps guys. Thank you for posting this. I've spent a good deal of time with that B-17 and P-47, and know the folks who run LSFM very well. I know that the greatest joy they get is when they have WWII vets visit and fly with them, like this occasion. I was with the P-47 a few years ago up at Sheppard AFB for a show. Two WWII T-Bolt pilots visited us, one flew in the ETO, the other off Ie Shima. One fellow, a DFC winner, was fully immersed, telling his son about everything in the cockpit and about flying it. I fully expected him to jump in and turn it over! The other fellow wasn't in good enough health to get up on the wing, but stood by the tail, told stories, and cried as he looked off in the distance remembering. His daughter, crying, told me he had said more to her abut his WWII experiences during that hour than he had during her entire lifetime. Hal's pilot, Gumby, looked at me after they left, and said "That's why we do this s**t". 'Nuff said! |
