Radioman 3 Glenn H. Lane will be laid to rest today at the base of turret #4 with his shipmates in the U.S.S. Arizona. Glenn, who lived on Whidbey Island and was Washington States last surviving Pearl Harbor survivor, was fighting a fire at turret #4 when the forward magazine explosion blew him off the ship and into the water. He was finally awarded a Purple Heart in 2004. He didn't apply for it and didn't want to mess with all the paperwork required as he said because 'we weren't thinking about awards, we had a job to do'.
Fair seas Glenn and thank you so much-

burial at sea? they just dropped him onto the wreck? I do know many, many bodies were recovered by navy divers before they finally gave up.

His ashes were carefully and reverently placed @ turret #4 by navy divers apparently per his request to spend eternity with his shipmates.

This is not uncommon. Many Arizona survivors have been interred in a similar fashion when they passed on.

This was taken in 2007. Wonder how many names have been added since then...
