A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

Kerman -the Canadian Halifax project to build/restore another centres on Hastings parts recovered from Malta. There was a stock of engines purchased from Hawkair which are former Bristol Freighter engines. The project is not to fly -there is very little similarity with the wartime engine and post war units hence why we don't have a flying Beaufighter yet!

The other big issue is they are sleeve valve engines. Nobody makes sleeve valves anymore and the stock of NOS ones is minimal even for the few engines still using them and there are no currently flying aircraft using the Hercules and just a handful of Centaurus powered Sea Furies still flying. This is why a lot of them got repowered with Pratt and Whitneys.
