Do Fi Fi's bombays open? In flight?

Both sets of doors open on the ground, in the air I don't recall if both sets open, but I do know that the forward set does.

Makes for a great scene at airshows.

An F-22 pilot, at the MacDill Airshow last year, landed, shut down, opened up his missile bay and retrieved his luggage. Guess you wouldn't want to toggle the wrong switch in flight!
The old lady is coming along nicely, with the to fix list getting shorter I hope.

During our extensive rework of FIFI a couple of years ago, I took the old cargo pallet out of the rear bomb bay and replaced it with replica bombs (250 pounders). I also reworked the system a bit so that you could open both sets of doors, or just the front ones (for the famous "A bomb" reenactment). Who knows, however, if they'll utilize what was done or just reinstall the old cargo pallet like the "good ol' days."
(Sorry Dave....I'm just grumpy today)

Dave, Very informative post and photos, After the engines are insalled on Fifi will you be using BMEP gauges and an engine analizer to mointer the health of those engines? Thanks Carl

Currently our intentions is to use the nose case oil pressure for reading torque pressure that will convert to HP with charts/graphs. As far as the engine analizer, not sure yet what we'll do. Giving it some thought but I do have a portable unit that will work nicely.

I also had another stop on the way to Idaho that was very informative. I was given the opportunity to get up close and personal with the Boeing Museum project, T-Square 54! heres some of what i saw.

This is the lower rear turret. It works!!

This is the top aft turret just behind the CFC! It works!


The turrets have all been reworked and all work from remote locals as they did in the day!!
These guys have a 4 gun 50 cal. working on a stand from a sight on a bench!! Witness this!!!

They are putting the radar pod on and they made it from scratch.


they even have the radar unit which by the way, isn't very much different in appearance from the modern day radar units that you wound find the the ray dome of your standard 737,757, 767. 0r 747 and 777.
