I think it's just that Ole 927 isn't finished with you yet, Gary!

Can we document that as "Battle Damage  " from the Airshow Wars....

At least its fixable in an winter project.

Kurt :)

Why is it relevant that either pilot had a formation card? Anyone can go fly formation together so long as its briefed and not taking place inside santitized airspace.

Good question Randy, and for most of the flying I do I'd agree with you...but anyone that flies formation with a CAF airplane MUST be formation rated and the flight MUST be briefed before hand, no matter if it's in waivered airspace or not...as per CAF rules. There are just lots of folks who watch us closely and I was simply making sure they knew we weren't breaking any of our own rules. The CAF is trying to do everything they can to insure a safer flying environment for our airplanes and pilots. I agree that just because you don't have a formation card, it doesn't mean you aren't capable of flying formation, this is just a rule that insures that the folks flying with us have at least gone through the paces. :)

Gary,

I'm sorry to hear about the damage. In a way I'm almost glad it happened, because now you'll have more to post about on the "What's up with Diamond Lil" thread.

Are there any new precautions or rules that will be brought into effect to avoid this from happening again? I don't know what that would be, but clearly, if things were done differently, the accident could have been avoided. All of this with the clarity of hind-sight, of course.

I'm glad to know Ole 927 is in good hands.

Cheers,

David

I'm working on something in my head right now. Hopefully, I'll have a new installation of an item this winter that should make this sort of thing a bad memory.

I think I have an idea that will prevent further tail-sitting situations from occurring. It won't fix what happened this week, but it will DEFINITELY keep it from happening again:

Thanks for the idea, Jack! :)

P.S.--No smart remarks about my Okie Photoshop.

Brilliant Idea!!!!

not too aerodynamic, but nice and simple.

Well, heck...a B-24 isn't all that aerodynamic as it is. Jack's little pony wouldn't make that much difference in how the plane flies.

But I'll bet that extra "horsepower" would help. :D

Fri Nov 16, 2007 4:21 pm

Hey!

That's my pony!

Fri Nov 16, 2007 6:56 pm

Zane,

I'll bet Gary will let you have the pony back if you come down and work on the airplane this winter. :P Besides, I don't know if the Squadron can afford to feed him! (the pony)

Jack your pony is a real keeper, I'm 60+ , and divorced some 9 years now, and I had a date that looked dang near identical to that thing. I swear I knocked her motorcycle over gettin out of there. " I swore off Tequilla right there"!

Sorry I couldn't really get a chance to visit longer, as we were under guard during our media day.
