A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

I think they got the aircraft down to CA.
Dave told me about three weeks ago that he was on his way to Afghanistan. I'm not sure how long he'll be gone. He was going to shoot me an E-mail when he got settled in but I haven't heard from him. Hope he's doing well.
I'd check the web site for the possibility of more information.

I've been in touch with Dave in the last week or so and he is on a mission right now. He couldn't say much and I'm not sure when he'll be back.
I'm glad to hear the Aluminum Mistress is down in California now. That's great news. I've been following the progress a well and the website hadn't said anything since the inspector rejected their ferry permit.
Cheers,
David

Hi guys,
My name is Matt, I'm with the crew and the AAF. Unfortunately, the C-47 still sits up in Canada. The lady with the FAA in Seattle wanted to see the archives for the plane, she wants to know the history, and we had some additional paperwork to take care of. Of course she seems to be on endless vacations, so communication with her is hard to come by.
Transport Canada has inspected the plane for the FAA, so the plane is capable to fly, we are just waiting for the FAA inspector to contact us back with the Ferry permit. A few weeks ago, she gave us a time frame of 3-6 weeks for the records, we are shooting for the end of July to get her home.
Dave is doing well. He is overseas in the desert. He was hoping to return Mid-July, but may be extending for a few weeks longer.
I will post an update to the website as soon as I have more concrete information. We appreciate all the support, and I'm sure Dave appreciates it as well!
Thanks
Matt

This must be the same inspector who dealt with the importation & Part 121 certification of 3 CV-580s for the company I used to work for. You'd think the planes had never been flown before, much less flown by DHL or its maintenance plan for 20-odd years...
