Would it be feasible to see 927 at Geneseo one of these years? Or does the grass cause some troubles?

Chad, sorry to take so long on answering your question...... Indy fell thru about 5 weeks before the show.... as I was really hoping that negotiations would work out..... but alas, not...... Chicago, I don't think that we even got an offer from the shows in that area....... As far as Geneseo, I am going to defer to Dave and/or Gary on that one.... I don't think it would be a problem on grass. Somewhere in the back recesses of my mind, I think she has been there (Geneseo) before, back in the late 80's/early 90's?????? Guys????? A big formation flight with B-17's, the Lanc, and the then "Diamond Lil"?. Not sure if that was her or one the two flying "J" models...... Alan

I obviously have no more say over what happens with the airplane, but it would be my recommendation that the B-24 NOT operate off of a grass strip. That nosegear is spindley enough on pavement. Scares me every time I watch it taxi. I cannot imagine how hard it would be on the gear while on grass.
Besides that, they've already broken the nosegear out of that airplane years ago, in Virginia I believe, while taxiing on grass.

Somewhere I've got an old video of a Genesseo airshow back in the early 90s where a B-17 (Fuddy Duddy I think,) the CWH Lanc, and Tallichet's B-24J all flew in formation. As I recall, it was a big deal because as far as anyone could remember it was the first time all three types had ever flown together.
I believe the B-24 flew in from off-site, specifically because they didn't want to operate her off grass.

Right, that was 89 I think. I believe in 91 (I have another recorded documentary from Discovery Channel) that shows the Collings group at Geneseo with the 24. So yea its been done. And alot of Yankees would be psyched if they saw that 24 visit the grass strip!

Yes Tallichet's B-24J flew in from the Rochester airport because of the high hours on her Wasps. Did not want to horse them to get her in the air off the grass.

The '91 Geneseo Show had 5x B17's, the Lanc & Collings' B24...in formation...pretty nifty...

Saw Ol'927 land just before 8pm Central at Addison. Was great to see her on approach.

Yes, Collings B-24 was at Geneseo in 91, and operated off the grass there. That's all I have. I'm not versed in the B-24 nose gear, but Collings did operate there without any issues.

I have had this for a few days now, but just have not had time to post. I really, really want to say thank you to one guy in particular on how this picture came about....... to Mr Gary Austin. "Thank You" for allowing me to participate, just a little, in the re-birth of this ol' girl. I never could have imagined sitting in the right seat, or any other seat on this ol' B-24A, except for you saying... "come on to Midland, I'll find something you can do"....... 
I also have some pics from Sioux City that I will be adding..... later tonight.... The bird is ready to go to Lancaster this Saturday, 9-5-09...... Can't wait! Alan
