Need an oil cooler source -- Allison V-1710

Can anyone point me towards a source for a new oil cooler? It's for the V-1710-81 in our P-40N.

It's been operating at what seems like partial capacity forever, and we've checked the vernitherm valve.

Pacific Oil Coolers, they had a overhauled oil cooler for the A-26 in stock, had it the next day.

It would also pay to make sure that you have the correct size oil lines and the matching capacity scavenge pump. It is important that everything is exactly correct as per the Tech order or you can end up with high scavenge pressure that will affect the cooler functioning ( and cause oil lines to fail).

I have to recommend Pacific Oil Cooler service. They just re-cored a P-51 coolant Radiator for me A+ people to work with.

Thanks for the help, guys. I appreciate it. Looks like our oil cooler may have sprung a leak, as well as been generally inadequate, so we'll have to replace.

Contact Paul Saurenman at Pacific Oil Coolers - www.oilcoolers.com - they have done many warbirds retrofits, and can do custom aluminum too.

Drake was bought out and no longer wishes to work on this old stuff.

The Pacific cooler has made quite a difference. The unit has a smaller aperture, and at first glance it would appear to provide less cooling surface, but using plate-design rather than hexagonal cells means, I think, increased fin area and increased oil flow.

Anyway, we still have some issues to work out, but we're getting more pressure and cooler temps. I did a display at the Borden Airshow last weekend, and even at an OAT of over 90F, I stayed within limits.

Just thought I'd finish this thread by passing this info along.

Dave,

Just saw this... didn't look at the p/n to see if it's the right one, but it looks like they have three... bit pricey though.

I believe we have new made coolers on the P-40, I'll check to see.
