Hello WIXers ...

Does anyone know of a site deadicated to the restoration or recovery efforts of warbird helicopters. YES YES (*audience laughing)... I hear you, quit your darn snickering ... Who would?..... they are so ugly, right?

Well I will have to come out of the closet and said that i am a fan of military VTOL aviation! There, I said it .... dont shoot me for it please.

I see alot of "Restricted" aircraft flying around such as:

Seaking (Carson Helicopters for Heli Logging)
Labrador
Black Hawks
Cobras
OH-58 (Some AUssies bought some Canadian Forces CH-136 for AG Spray)
Uh-1

Are there any other unique fling wings out there working and or restored?

There are a few S-58's like in Full Metal Jacket that come through KAGC near Pittsburgh monthly. I also see some hueys from Canada a good bit, and some Little birds, Cobra's, and Apache's.

There are a fair number of them out there flying and one show in particular that has them each year is the Vertical Challenge Air Show in San Carlos, Ca every June. Sparta Helicopters in New Jersey has an H-19 that they fly and the owner was looking at getting a Mojave!

There is also a group out of Oklahoma with two H-34s. One wears its original colors from its service in the USMC in SEA.
YL-37 maybe?

Weve got a Bell 47 in mash colours, a couple of Gazelles still in war paint, several Kiowas (at least one in US army colours) running around down here.

(not to mention UH-1s, Mil-Mi 8s, a Mil-Mi 17 and a couple of Wessexs in civvy colours doing logging/heavy lift work +a couple of S-55s in storage)

And one that guts me, we had a Jolly Green combat vet that had been based in Da Nang during Vietnam doing logging work and it had a minor accident (fell over) and was scrapped without being offered to a museum.

AH-1 Cobra baby!

I'm a big fan of the Cobra series, and there are at least five or so of them flying around. The Olympic Flight Museum in Washington has at least one flyer (possibly two). They also have one or two unrefurbished airframes stored outdoors if memory serves me correctly. These are the choppers that usually show up in the movies (i.e. "Con Air", etc.)

Then there's the Red Bull TAH-1P that used to belong to John Silberman in Florida (again, not perfectly sure).

There's an early AH-1G (my favorite) flying with a Vietnam reenactment group, I believe out of California.

I'd love to know of any others. Detedrmining where all of the surviving AH-1's are located is one of the many activities on my "to do" list.

There is an Army Aviation Association that has a flying
UH-1, AH-1, OH-6, OH-13, OH-23, OH-58, and fixed wing types including a Bird Dog, Mohhawk, Beaver, perhaps a Carabou.
They do airshows too.

I am a big fan of PISTON-engined vintage helicopters, particularly the:

H-19, H-21, H-34 and H-37.

I don't get particularly excited about Huey's, Sea Kings, etc. I know that the group that owns the H-21 at one time planned to restore a CH-37 Mojave, but I think that went by the wayside. I hope the guy in NJ mentioned earlier that may restore a Mojave is successful - that would be impressive to see!
