Last week was the Doolittle Reunion in San Antonio. This was also the first outting of Special Delivery in her new paint scheme. It was a real honor to be apart of the event! There was seven Raiders present. There is also some more pics in the 65th Reunion thread on the Events page of WIX. It was a great time to kick off the ride program!

Great pictures, I wish I could've been there. You were a part of something pretty amazing, I am envious! :D

Beautiful pics...thanks for sharing.

I'm to assume that every year the surviving Doolitlle veterans make a toast using the special goblets??

I believe they do, John. The Goblets are set up in columns. The first columns on the left is for Crew #1 and so on down the line. The Goblets are inscribed so that you can read the names right side up or upside down. Goblets that are upside down are men that have passed. As you can see there are whole crews that have departed. The last two Raiders will toast to their fellow airmen.

Wow, the goblets, I think that's really cool. On the same hand though, it's unbelievably sad, especially when you see how many are already gone.

The new paint job looks sweet man. The Goblets are on display the rest of the year at the NMUSAF behind the Doolittle B-25 setting. It is really sad to think that we are not that far away from that final toast. Special Delivery looks great. When you first said that you were changing the paint scheme on it, I was worried as I loved the pin up that was on there before. But you guys really made it a flying memorial, which is part of the reason that we fly warbirds.

You nailed that one Chris! Thanks!! It was a great five days! And I couldnt have been with a better crew! One of the head guys of the Doolittle Raider Association was out on the ramp and Special Delivery was about to take off with another ride. Special D took off to the skies as she roared to life...the gentleman with the Raiders was jumping up and down like a little kid yelling with excitement. It reminded me of the kid from Empire of the Sun as the mustangs flew past. At this point I knew the Museum really had something "Special"!!!

Trae,

"Special Delivery" looks really awesome in the Doolittle paint scheme. Perfect for her since she has that early B model looking nav dome and forward fuselage windows. I know it meant a lot to the Raiders' seeing it done up like that. B-25s look best in OD and gray in my opinion. Good job on everything.

And that, my friends, is what makes it so wonderful to be involved with, isn't it?

Thanks Ryan! There are numerous people at the museum including Volunteers that made it happen for us to attend the Reunion. We still have some tweaks that in the next few weeks we would like to accomplish. We still have the ADF football antenna that should go back on top of the fuselage, also we should be getting the "Mark Twain" bomb sight back in the nose. And just might take the 50's out of the tail and replace with broom sticks.

Does the B-25 at the NMUSAF have broomsticks in the tail? I never thought to check when I was there. That would be a neat touch...

I think it does (99% sure it does), I'd check my pictures but that computer is down right now

It does. They used the description of what several of the raiders said that it looked like.

poignant pic of the goblets & cognac, kind of bitter sweet under the future circumstances. i'll bet that hennessy is smooooth....... what an honor it will be to the lucky / unlucky recipients to toast the raiders when the time comes. almost like an ironic double edge sword.
