This afternoon was interesting to say the least.

A construction crew started a grass fire that burned several acres directly behind my property. For a while I had two CDF turbine S2F's, an OV10 and a huey circling directly over my house.
I know what some of you are thinking. Pictures?
For some unknown reason I had other things on my mind.
Fortunately, no structures that I know of burned, only grass.

in australia we dont even get firebombers but just helos.. you are lucky :)

for some bizzare reason in australia water carrying planes are not considered a good tool in firefighting..

On my side of the Country, there really isn't any firebombers I know of! But then again we dont get those dry Summers that start those huge fires!

I have always wondered by, with all the great big brush fires there are no big water bombing airplanes in Australia.

I think the Martin Mars could have helped out (obviously it would be a struggle getting therer), but how about some converted Trackes, DC-6's, Electras, Catalinas, etc?

Strange.

It's always so scary watching the Australian news and seeing those huge fires. Seems like the helos are doing alright, but it seems like such a small amount of water compared to an airplanes load.

Cheers,

David
