I was sent a link to these, and they are pretty good photos of General Mark Clark's personal L-5, L-4 and his pilot LTC John Walker. LTC Walker was later killed in a transport plane crash.

The bulk of L-5's were assigned to Liaison Squadrons attached to US Armies or Groups. I don't know if the L-5 here was part of a squadron but I would guess it was not. Interesting view of how the L-pilot operated in the field, but not typical. Most of them were Sergeant Pilots and did not fly around a specific officer on a regular basis.

I always have been a fan of the L-Birds.Probibly because I might be able to afford one some day. My first solo was in an L-2A, but I've always wanted to try my hand at the L-5.
Yes that was a hint I dropped.

Great stuff, real history. It would be neat to do up an L-5 with those markings.

If you have any contact with the webshots people, the photos on page 6 are mis-ID'd. They say L-4 crash when it's clearly a L-5.

OK so this pilot flew around Generals. I have (had) a friend that flew around USO movie stars in the ETO. Although he admits if he got caught he would still be pealing potatoes. There was a local book published 25 years ago "Box Seat Over Hell" that told of these exploits. Should be a movie, and the title is just perfect. Hardy Cannon was the author and I doubt you can find it, maybe a used bookstore or E-bay. Bf-109 if your dad doesn't have a copy or you have never seen it let me know and I will see if I can find one for you. I doubt they got out of the San Antonio area.
