Greetings
I was wondering how many Real B-29's were used in the Movie and where was it filmed ? I know that FiFi is the only flying B-29 but those other B-29's look real I am sure that many were just mockups .

I seem to remember that there was another non-flying airframe used in the film (sharing the ramp with Fifi) and the rest were done with models shot in "forced perspective" and matte paintings.

The movie was filmed at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson. The static B-29 was Pima's.

I think they may have also used the ex-Universal Studios B-29 Cockpit Section that is now in Stockton, CA.
Not 100 % sure though.

"Fertile Myrtle" from the American Air Museum in Oakland was the other B-29 flyer at the time and was also used in the film.

I have been looking for this movie to come out on DVD for a while now. The VHS is available on ebay for $75 and thats a bit much. Anyone know of a source?

The P-38 in the movie was at Pima as well. It was later traded by the Air Force to a museum in France where it was lost in the hangar fire.

You all are correct; the 1988 movie, Enola Gay, was filmed at DM with Fertile Myrtle, FiFi and Pima Air Museum's B-29 Sentimental Journey was towed over to the base.

The studio shots were filmed with the nose section at Universal Studios which is now at our museum in Stockton. Her serial number is 42-65401 and she was stateside for the war. She was supposedly used by the Army Air Forces First motion picture unit for B-29 training films and she appeared in many other films that used B-29's like Above and Beyond, Wild Blue Yonder.

Her last movie, Enola Gay, was a real sleeper and hardly worth watching let alone owning. The nose section still wears the paint from the Enola Gay movie.

I am still collecting parts for her so if you know anyone who has B-29 stuff please let me know.

We also have a working upper central station fire control turret system for the B-29 and are in need of other components to complete the entire B-29 fire control system. We especially need Amplidyne motor generators for the main system and the tail turret and 4 gun turret parts.

My claim to fame with the Enola Gay and Bocks Car is that I worked in the same building that they were both made in when I was in the Air Force, stationed at Offutt AFB in the Martin Bomber Building.

What was cool, is that the flooring of the plant was made of entirely wooden bricks.

They gave you a brick when you left the building and transfered to another base or another department, so I have a wooden brick that those two aircraft rolled accross.

Just a cool/neat thing to tell my kids and others.

I've got one of those wooden bricks as well, didn't someone in Bellevue (a trophy store?) make a plaque you could display the brick on?

It has a gold plate over the brick with inscription on it. No, I didn't get a case. What unit were you in at Building D?
