For those who get IFC (Independent Film Channel - channel 550 on my DirecTV), I saw that they will be showing the Czech-produced movie Dark Blue World at three different times this Thursday.

If you haven't seen it, the movie is about the Czech pilots who flew Spitfires in WW2 (and their subsequent internment after the War). Some very good flying scenes, and the storyline is not half-bad either. Definitely worth watching.

DBW is my absolute most favorite aviation movie of all time! It is wonderful. It's rare because it is one of the few movies in which flying scenes play a major role, but yet has a very good, captivating storyline. I have the DVD in standard definition, and it's phenomenal! I hope they release it in High Definition.

BTW, check out the B of B flying scenes it uses in some of the movie. On the DVD, there is some bonus content, where they show how they digitally restored the original B of B clips.

Most good, and two thumbs up! :D

Y'know...as long as we've been friends, I've never been a troublemaker, BUT....IMHO WAAAYYY too much time spent on the love triangle and WAAAYYY too little time with flying scenes. Granted, the flying scenes are fun for us warbird nuts but there just aren't enough of them.

Mudge the critic

I have this movie on DVD since it came out :D
What I read somewhere some time is that they also used scenes from the Battle of Britain movie.
They used the Fighter Collections Spitfire MkV EP120 and the OFMC Spit.
I wish there would be more movies like this one. Not hide in an attic, fight!

Once again Mudge, you da man! I agree that there was way too much time spent on the love triangle (Pearl Harbor comes to mind :? ) and not nearly enough flying scenes. The stuff they did have of the Spits on the ground and in the clouds were marvelous! I stick with my original post...Spits flying in the clouds and it can't be a bad movie :P Thanx for the heads-up for when it was on!

I caught the last 20 minutes, so I went and bought the DVD. I would never watched it if you hadn't done this posting, thanks.

Mudge the Correct was right about the love triangle. I was skipping forward to the military/flying scenes. The flying scenes were great - refreshing to have some new flying scenes in a 'new' movie. On top of the BoB scenes, I thought I saw a Memphis Belle shot in there when they said they were escorting the Americans.

With the new flying scenes, something you should see; probably not buy (unless the love triangle is for the wife) but something you should rent if possible.
