How about 44-74009 N51KB, it was N988C when I first saw it back in Pittsburgh in 1965 or so.

Not sure,I remember I spent the day detailing it and there was no name on it.It was down in lauderdale 1986? getting some service done on it.Glen will probly know if he see's this post. You may be right thanks.

It is 988C, originally owned by Jack Shaver and flown as Miss Kat Brat, then owned by Robt. L. Ferguson and flown as Ain't Misbehavin'. Sold to another fellow around Hyannis which is also were Bob kept it. He sold it now to a group of 4 partners who own it together.

Bob was in Hyannis, he sold it to a guy on Nantucket.

Bill McGrath was the owner in Nantucket. He flew it in an airshow we did there a couple of years ago. Bill has since sold it to Jim Thompson who has it down south now. It was at the GML back in September. It looks great.

Bill is an interesting guy. I went up there a couple of times to do some work on his 51. For a while he also had a Pitts, Stearman, SNJ and the P-51 based on the island along with a 185 and Baron. There is a small island right next to Nantucket. Bill built a cabin there and hauled most of the stuff there in his 185. Something like 7 minutes from taxi to shutdown. He would land in a field next to his homesite. He also owns Island Airlines which flies every 15 minutes from Nantucket to Hyannis. I believe they fly in excess of 100,000 people a year 7 at a time in Cessna 402's. He also used to have a different airline which flew DC-3s. As a 18YO he flew Twin Beeches hauling freight in 0 visibility out to the island and stuck with the flying ever since. I guess that which does not kill you makes you stronger.

You are correct about Bill - interesting guy. He bought Dan Calderale's SNJ Bonnie Sue, had it for a while and then suffered an engine failure trying to land at Nantucket. He landed short of the airfield. I believe he then sold it to someone else. Do you know who purchased it and is it back flying yet?

Also, have we ever met? I live about 6 miles east of runway 29 in Thorndale, PA. I'm sure I've must have met you up at the airport sometime. I'm pretty good friends with Mark Denest.

The T-6 was repaired and Dan even fixed the paint as needed. His Stearman also suffered the same fate a number of years ago. He built a custom cradle in a dedicated trailer and took it some where to get fixed. They called and said it was done. Bill sent a driver up who hooked up the the trailer and drove it from the mid west back home. They opened the trailer and found that nothing had been secured in the cradles, just thrown in the trailer and he then had to send it out to Air Repair and they started over again on it from scratch as it was severely wounded from the trip.
We probably have met. I was at MQS from 95 to 97 with Shipley. I've been back at MQS for nearly 2 years since Jim Beasley has built the hangar. In between I was at Northeast Philly where the Beasley aircraft were based before.

I met those four guys at GML. The New owners are Wes Stowers from Knoxville,Tn., a T-6 owner and former F-15 pilot, Jim Thompson from Birmingham who has been flying Beech 18's for over 25 years, and a Doctor and a businessman from Birmingham, Alabama. I believe the aircraft is based in Birmingham now.
They have been giving the airplane some TLC, and a little maintenance and it looked pretty good. I think they put a new engine in it last Fall.
