TV 9 news in Denver just reported a vintage jet lost power on takeoff from Metro, BJC was Jeffco, in Broomfield, Denver, and bellied into a field. The pilot Mark Johnson is unhurt, an walked away. Mark is a friend, a long time warbird pilot, former A-26 owner. I recognize his DH Venom in the photo. It looks like there is some fire damage to the cockpit. I don't know any more.

Hi Bill,
A friend just called me about it. I am glad that the pilot is ok.
I was looking forward to seeing the new paint job in person this year at the Broomfield open house.
Corsair166b had posted some pictures of the new paint.

Channel 4 in Denver just had a live shot - landing gear was torn off when the Venom crossed a ditch and the cockpit area is burned out.
:(
Glad Mark walked away OK.

Glad he is ok.

Talked to Mark and he is OK, just bummed about the Venom. He was fortunate not to hit a power line and avoided a fence and two ditches, but the third got him. This is a great example of the value of KNOWING your emergeny procedures and V speeds...

Anyone know of a check Venom to get Mark back in the saddle?

Glad to hear he is ok Gordon.

Mark's aircraft was one of the highlights of last year.
Seeing him go by always drew a gasp from the crowd.

I hope he gets it rebuilt ASAP. I loved seeing that plane when I was in Colorado. I am definitely glad he's okay.

Hey, at least the engine looks okay (if the cause of the power loss wasn't fatal). :)

I had the chance to get to know Mark a little bit up in Cheyenne a couple of years ago, when I flew a T-bird there for the Frontier Days Airshow, and parked next to him. He was a great guy, and I really enjoyed getting to know him. He showed me his pilot certificate...good grief. The sheer number of aircraft authorizations that guy has is staggering. I'm really glad to hear he made it out okay, I hope the plane isn't so far gone that a rebuild is out of the question.

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.

S: Took hammer away from midget.
