I just started a new album for some old pics I drug out of mothballs. Some were taken with a Kodak X-15 so the quality isn't fantastic. There are some pics of Scatterbrain Kid and an unknown Corsair from the early 70's. Also a couple of interesting shots of a C-124. They are in the "Aviation Odds & Ends from the dusty archives" album.

The Mustang is 44-73849.
The interesting thing about that photo is the Mustang is in early CAF colors, but was apparently never a CAF aircraft.

I did some more digging through the archives and found a few more pics to add to the "Odds and Ends" album. The quality on some isn't too good but there are a few interesting ones. I found a pic of the restored P-38 that was at Eagle Aviation in Tulsa and you can see the remains of a P-40 laying off to the side. Also found a bare metal shot of the FM-2 that had the "executive interior" added in the rear fuselage.

Elwyn,

Very interesting photos!

I'm pretty sure the P-38 is this one, now with Yanks in Chino: http://www.warbirdregistry.org/p38registry/p38-4427183.html

It wasn't nearly that glossy when I first saw it at Chino! It was a two-seater at the time with that paint job.

Also, Spitfire TP276 is with Rudy Frasca: http://www.warbirdregistry.org/spitregistry/spitfire-tp276.html

From my slides I belived that the A-26 is TA-26B, N62289, 44-34722, shortly ater its return from El Salvador where if flew as FAS-600.

The unknow Corsair is possible: FG-1D N8297, 88297. Now in UK as
G-FGID.

Cheers, John.

PS: Nice shots

Some fascinating pics there, Elwyn. Thanks for posting the link.

The Spitfire, Mk XVIII TP276, is still with Rudy Frasca (his second airframe, the other being the airworthy TP280). I'm not sure that it was ever owned by the EAA, so am at a loss to explain why they appear to have been soliciting donations for its rebuild in your picture. Any idea what year it was taken?

I dug out the slide and luckily the date was printed on it. Looks like 1979 and I know it was at Oshkosh.

I've been told that at the time the photo was taken the plane was owned by Tulsan Bill Harrison. I just checked and that agrees with the Warbird Registry.

Great pictures! Thanks Elwyn.

I got my Stuka fix for today. I must have looked at pictures of the bird for ever, and thats the first time I've noticed that it doesn't have pants on. I wonder how it got that way? I know some of them had them removed in the field. I wonder if thats the case, or if they were removed after capture?

I just love these old shots, thanks for sharing. I visited the "odd" two seat P-38 when it was based at a little airport near Tulsa, can't recall the name of the place. They also had the Jug "Unadilla Killa" as well as two Airacobras and a late Mark Spit, I think a MkXIV. Anybody know which Spit that was?

Great photos Elwyn. This is pure gold to see. I seem to remember that former owner "Doc" Swayze of Dallas, TX was a CAF Col. hence the paint job on the P-51D. The P-38 in Tulsa is actually 44-27183 N517PA. David Boyd owned this one for many years. I remember as a young boy I bought a second hand A/C flyer magazine with ads for "spam cans" all over. On one page I found a small photo of N517PA all ready to be mine for a mere $250.000 (This was in 1977). It kept those colors for all the times I visited Yanks in the 90's. BDK is therefore spot on! I am fairly certain that the ex-Salvadorian 26 is N62289. The other one to come out of there back then went to John Crocker, and flew all silver for a while if I'm not mistaken. Invader N256H on the other hand is not 44-35755, but rather 41-39221. Mid America Pipeline owned both 26s, and both wore reg. N256H, and N3035S. They switched N# for some reason. Maybe they wanted the number, so when one got sold, they kept its number? Who knows! 39221 is still alive, preserved at South Mtn. High School in Phoenix, AZ. 35755 is the one that disappeared. It too was an On-Mark model, but not a pressurized version like 39221, thereby looking slightly different. The B-25 on page 4 really got my attention! It looks very much like my favourite B-25, N9494Z "Laden Maiden" which has been the subject of much discussion on the Flypast forum lately. That would make it 44-30925. The old "Catch 22" tail letters are correct, as is the somewhat corrupt reg. # on the tail. You wouldn't by any chance have more photos of this baby?

Once again, wonderful photos. Thanks so much for sharing! :D

Thanks for all the great informaton. I may have another shot of that B-25 but it might not be very sharp. These were shot with a Kodak X-15 instamatic camera back in 1976 at an airshow in Oklahoma City.
