I've always been fascinated by warbirds, especially WWII vintage, and the B-17 has always been one of my favorites. I also love tinkering with mechanical stuff, whether it's cars or planes. Recently I've been been fortunate enough to combine the two. After bemoaning the lack of warbird activity in my area (north metro Atlanta), I've been able to hook up with the fine folks who take care of the Liberty Belle after I discovered it was parked at Cherokee County airport, which is only 15 miles north of me! I spent several days the week before Christmas helping to install turbochargers, inspect exhaust collectors, fiddle with cowl flaps, and several other jobs. Today I spent the day working on electrical system items and sorting out some wiring issues. I plan on taking a week off from my regular job in couple of weeks to help with a #3 engine change and whatever else they need a hand with.
This is some of the most satisfying work I've ever done. I know it's probably old hat to some of you, but I truly feel honored to be allowed to help out. Hopefully, I'll be able to continue to be involved for a long time to come! I just wish I could afford to do this full time.........

Ok, what else do I "owe" you that I haven't shipped to you yet? Trying to get me to deliver it in person is one thing, but involving Rod also...

Got any of my boss' stuff finished that I can take back to him?

Chuck

Rod:
Come check out the Dixie Wing of the CAF, located in Peachtree City GA. We have all different kinds of airplanes you can work on and help fly. From ATL it only takes about 45 min to get to our hanger.
PM me if you would like a tour.

It'll be a bit longer of a wait, the parts wouldn't fit into the cab, and I didn't want them sitting outside at ATL while I was visiting the "Frozen Tundra". So, they are still in storage in Canton. I'll bring them back to Don next trip.

Rod, sorry for hi-jacking the thread. See you in a few weeks.

No problem with "hijacking" Chuck! I'm off of work from January 16 through the 31st. So I can be around for that entire time.

When I lived in Valdosta, I was also lucky to be able to spend some time tinkering on Liberty Belle. It was a pleasure to get to know those guys and an honor to be able to be part of that airplane.

Thanks to Don Brooks and the rest of his people!

No worries Chuck, I'm just busting your chops  I actually might have some more parts for you to bring back to Don on the next trip, we'll have "UPS" painted on the side of your truck in no time! :P
