Here's the story:

Limping along in a crippled Flying Fortress over the North Sea, still within the reach of enemy fighters, 94th Bomb Group pilot 2Lt. C. Arliss Watts and his crew breathe a sigh of relief at the arrival of an escort of P-51s. Their B-17G, nicknamed "Roll Me Over", had received flak damage while on the bomb run over Kiel, Germany, on 4th April 1945, resulting in the failure of the no. 2 engine and a windmilling propeller. The suspense was not over yet, for soon after they had passed the island fortress of Heligoland, the Mustangs would depart and no. 3 engine, seen here trailing a mist, would also fail, forcing Lt. Watts to feather that propeller as well. However, the crew did return safely to the 94th's home base of Rougham, near Bury St. Edmunds.

Beautiful work!
It was very nice to see glimpses of the various stages of the painting.
Thanks for including us!

I'm pleased to announce that Temporary Reprieve has been juried into the American Society of Aviation Artists' 2009 International Aerospace Art Exhibition to be on display at The Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, Savannah, Georgia, from June 21, 2009 - January 3, 2010. For those interested, I have a detailed Work in Progress album for this piece in my Facebook photos section ...

Matter of fact - yes! I just had canvas giclees done of Mission from Debden (basis for my logo below), and I was so happy with the result that this B-17 will be published as a canvas giclee soon. If interested, pls email me at Chicoartist@XXXXXyahoo.com (remove capital Xs before emailing) to get on the list for information.

Cheers!
Wade

Then I see stuff like this.

Fantastic work!
