the Hahnweide Oldtimer Fliegertreffen 2009 is on the horizon September 4th to 6th.
With more than 350 registered aircraft it’s one of the biggest meetings for vintage aircraft and warbirds in Europe.

Scheduled for Friday afternoon is a 6 ship Junkers Ju-52 formation.

Just to get an impression: this is a picture from the Hahnweide 2005 with a 5 ship formation

The line-up of aircraft looks impressive. And that website is really something else...pics of each attending aircraft and histories on most. I'm going back and getting myself educated on all these survivors.

Anything on that? Looks like a rebuild and a glider version! That is awesome even as a glider.

I tried Googling it and came up with zip. I'd imagine it is a glider. Who in their right mind would fly an engine/fuel like that?

Great looking a/c except for the German flag on the tail. Ja, ich ken.. er... umm .. yes, I know, It's illegal to display the swastika in Germany. Gott mit uns!

This Me-163 was build by Mr Josef Kurz 1994-1996 and is now operated by the Messerschmitt Stiftung. It has no engine and is towed to altitude for the display.

I did find this on wikipedia:

A flying reproduction Me 163 was constructed between 1994 and 1996 by Joseph Kurtz, a former Luftwaffe pilot who trained to fly Me 163s but who never flew in combat. He subsequently sold the aircraft to EADS. The reproduction is an unpowered glider whose shape closely matches that of an Me 163, although its weight and internal construction differ considerably. Reportedly, it has excellent flying characteristics.

I saw this one fly at La Ferte Alais having been towed by a Dornier 27. Kinda cool to see as it swooped past the crowd. Even though it didn't have the speed of the real thing.

We had a great airshow this weekend at the Hahnweide. Not all aircraft arrived because of bad weather on Friday but on Saturday and Sunday it was just amazing.
