It's not the Midway, That's in San Diego.
It is an Essex Class carrier. Not sure which one or, how old the image is.

Wikimapia claims that it is the Oriskany (CV-34.) Don't know if it's true but I do know that sometimes the Google images are pretty old.

Yep, more than likely an old image of Oriskany before she passed on to become a reef.

Yes Steve the Oriskiny was at Ingleside before it went to Florida. That is where they took out all the Ecological hazards before sending it to be sunk.

One thing I've never known: what are the two doohickies sticking out in front? Part of the mechanism for reeling in the cats is what I'm guessing. Whatever, any comments on what they are and how they work will be greatly appreciated -- like I said, I've always wondered about 'em. Thanks!

I was told that they were bridle catchers. Before these were installed they just went into the water with every launch.
