For those able to get to Point Cook, Victoria, Australia, this Sunday...

Image

And there'll be a sneak peek at the Boneyard Wrangler (below), F-4 and Canberra on show in the new and not-yet-open Strike Hangar display.

more info on my blog: http://vintageaeroplanewriter.blogspot. ... oming.html and http://www.airforce.gov.au/RAAFMuseum/

For anyone who'd like to meet up, I'm suggesting a rendezvous at 11.30 by the Boxkite Project which I understand will be in the Restoration Hangar on the day.

For those not able to get there, I'm sure there'll be photos posted afterwards!

Cheers,

The day before the show - practices, preparation and some 'open house'.

There was a sneak peek inside the new Strike Hangar display...
Image

A variety of aircraft flew in, although the weather kept others out.
Image

Some were rare in Australia...
Image

Others returning to their 'home'...
Image

Some were a long way from home and very modern...
Image

Others very new versions of very old aeroplanes...
Image

Someone let the dogs out...
Image

But the Mosquito didn't look threatening...
Image

Although it's got one leg all back together...
Image

And as you asked nicely, here's one of the aircraft in the Strike Hangar.

Looks like a fun event! Do you have any detail pics of the nose of the Hudson?

Here is a couple of pics of the Hudson taken today, the "Tojo Busters" nose art is reproduced from a RAAF wartime Hudson, but not original to this airframe.

Well I dont want to "out" James, but let just say he is not one of the two "shorter" people on the LHS smiles

The person in the centre is retired Wing Commander Ron Gretton, who as a volunteer, has played a major role in many of the RAAF Museum restorations including the Hawker Demon, Farman Shorthorn, Walrus, Mosquito and now Boxkite.

Without his efforts, time and determination, I doubt most of those projects would have started, let alone been completed.

.
The RAAF Museum is free entry, as is the RAAF Point Cook Air Pageant.

I understand they closed the gates yesterday with a crowd of 22,000 people, it was a great success.

Unfortunatelty the "free" price attracts many to attend, and I dont think it would be enjoyable to make the trip only to have the gate closed prior to you arriving?? and I know that experience has lead to complaints in the past.

regards

Mark Pilkington
