Yesterday I visited 2nd annual the Greenwood Lake Airshow in West Milford NJ. First time I've been to this show and I loved it. The weather was perfect, the crowd was small and polite. The aircraft owners and crew memebers were talkative. :D I also got to meet and speak with Dutch Van Kirk.

It was a wonderful small show and I cannot wait to go again.

Here are some pics in no particular order.

The AAM from Long Island brought a flock of warbirds.

Here is the Greenwood lake Connie. She is attached to the airport resturant and was open. I got a few interior pics.

Great pictures. I haven't been to Greenwood Lake since I was a kid. I'd like to seen the interior shots of that Connie. I think there's a links somewhere of that plane landing at the airport when it made it's final flight...

Here are the rest of the Connie pictures. I was using a little point and shoot camera, and the early morning light made it tough to get a good picture the whole plane.

The interior has a wood floor and it appears that the side of the cabin is painted plaster or similar finish.

Towards the front of the cabin are a few display cases and aircraft seats. It looked like the cockpit was intact. It was a little crowded in there so it was tough to get a clear shot.

Great to see that the MAAM TBM is getting out and about. I was worried that it would not be kept airworthy.

Thanks for posting the Connie pictures. Kind of strange what they have done with the plane but at least it still exists...

I'm just happy as could be that the Connie seems to taken care of. The number of survivors isn't great, and most recently the number of DC-7s has also dwindled. So best of luck to the people at Greenwood Lake for keeping an 049 in one piece. And, oh yeah, there is a video of the last flight of this Connie.

I agree. It had me stopped dead in my tracks. It was a nice surprise to see one. The only one I'd ever seen was at the NMUSAF. I didnt realize any had made it out into the civilian market given their low production numbers. I'll post a few more pictures of it this evening, it was in very nice condition.

New FAA Regs regarding the operation of warbirds at airshows?

I found this on the ASB board from one of the show organizers. It explains why the warbirds did not fly:

"This is a big issue that is going to affect a lot of smaller airshows and performers unless we find a way to get around it or work with it.

Earlier this year the FAA came out with a new regulation involving the weight and landing / take off speed of aircraft in relation to the distance of the crowdline from the centerline of the runway.

In not so many words it states that if we wanted to fly any aircraft over 2500 lbs or with a stall speed more than 65kts the crowd line would have to be 300ft from the centerline of the runway. At 300ft we would be able to fly most of the warbirds we had on hand. I believe the 300ft covers aircraft up to 25,000 lbs. The L-39 would have still had an issue due to the speed.

We were informed of this regulation well after we had most of our acts booked. As it stood it would not allow us to launch David Brown, Jane Wicker, or Kevin Russon (2 Stearmans and the T6). As you may have noticed we had to have Kevin fly in from another airport, do his show and then depart back to the remote airport. The stearman luckily is able to land on the part of the west end of the runway that is behind the pond and tree area and thus nowhere near the crowd.

We all wanted to see the warbirds fly, the pilots wanted to fly them. We could have had some great passes with some of the visiting aircraft.

While I understand the safety issue I hope there is a way for us to make it safe and to allow for these planes to go up from the show airport. This is a new regulation and I hope by next year we can work something out."

Russ flew it in and flew it out but could not fly it during the show due to FAA Part 8900 regulations. See other posts above.
