Time for a Warbird lobbist in DC

I agree. Every other cause under the sun (good or bad) seems to have a lobby in DC. A warbird lobby should be composed of individuals with knowledge of warbird history, restoration, recovery as well as pilots and museums. We appear to have many WIX members who fit that bill.

For starters, I elect Rob Rohr! :idea:

Please, let's keep this a constructive effort and as Rob mentioned, not let this deteriorate.

You have my vote and support for this one. No "flaming here". It would be nice to get something like this. It would keep these old girls alive and well, and more importantly, SHOW them as they were to the folks who may never have seen one airborne. Winston Churchill said, I believe, "that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it". What better way than to show people what was used during one of the worst period in earlier human history.

EAA or the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) would be a start. The two apear to have agendas for general aviation anyway. I'd imagine warbird owners might be interested in participating as well. Owners, are you satified with your current representation in DC? Taras?

Perhaps the first steps would be to determine an agenda for this lobby to relate warbird recovery, restoration, maintenance and operation issues with our congressional representatives.

e.g., AGENDA

SAVE THE WARBIRDS

1. Classify what qualifys as a warbird.
2. Influence representatives to create legislature to allow reasonable access to currently restricted "warbird" wrecks.
3. etc...

Just thoughts!

The CAF also has connections for lobbyists.

bravo on the suggestion!!! it would have more impact & positive results if john glenn, neil armstrong, john mcain, frank borman etc had the ammo to lobby in aviation history's favor & behalf. they have the credentials & the political connections. best, tom
