She did her presentation today for National History Day...was the only girl that did a website.

Thanks to all who donated stories (a few of which she highlighted in her presentation) and content...

How about that...a young lady with a passion for European history.

How did you pull that one off, Dad? Both my daughters are sports nuts.

Thanks for the kind words...less so me I think...more Mom who spent time outside of school providing international exposure...that was easy to do in Atlanta...less so now in Ohio.

At 12 she also plays violin, reads the Economist and is pretty good at warbird aircraft recognition; Dad helped with the last part!

Australian contribution>>

RAAF Squadron Berlin Air Lift

The Berlin Airlift Squadron was a Royal Australian Air Force transport squadron formed to participate in the Berlin Airlift. The Australian contribution to the airlift, from September 1948, was designated Operation Pelican.[1]

It was formed at RAAF Richmond in August 1948 from Dakota crews drawn from No. 36 and No. 38 squadrons. In late August the crews travelled to the United Kingdom as passengers in Qantas flying boats.

After receiving training in the UK the aircrew moved to Lübeck, West Germany on 14 and 15 September, with the first Australian flight into Berlin occurring on 15 September.

Australian aircrew undertook Berlin Airlift missions until 26 August 1950, when the 2062nd and last flight was completed. The Berlin Airlift Squadron returned to Australia on 24 October 1950.

She sounds like a great girl! You must be very proud of her.

There's a whole bunch of short Airlift clips here, most of them about the American involvement. Not sure if you can download them, though.

Look for a fellow on youtube that has an account named bomberguy. You'll have to sift through a lot of (amazing) videos but I recall he has some on the airlift. I have no idea how to save youtube videos but I know there is a way.
