Royal Wedding Flyover

Turned on the TV this AM just in time to catch 'The Royal Kiss' between Kate and Wills, but more impressive than that was the flyover of the mall leading to Buckingham Palace by the BBMF with the Lanc in the lead, PS915 (a later model Spitfire) on left wing and Hurricane LF363 on the right wing! They showed plenty of shots of them, banking away afterwards, and then cut to some modern day Tornadoes and such doing their flybys.....great way to wake up on a Friday morning! Anyone else catch it?

The BBMF looked great. The bride was beautiful, too.

The flyover probably cost some big dough, but I'll wager that flying Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden to NYC and back last week in a military 737 so that they could appear on "The View" cost a lot more.

Caught the BBMF fly past on the local news, now to completely avoid TV all day as every channel on COMCAST will be trying to pound this thing flat and, I for one(along with 94+% of Americans) could care less-fairly tale this!!! :butthead:

Did anyone notice that Camilla, Charles, the Queen Mother had all fled inside Buckingham Palace while William & Kate remained outside for a bit? The coverage showed him checking out the return pass over London of the Lanc, Spit and Hurricane before they went back inside.

I thought that it was a nice moment for he and Kate hang around for a bit recognizing his RAF colleagues...unlike the others that were probably already into the food...

Maybe William is more than an empty hat...

BTW, I saw somewhere he initially flunked his written test but was a pretty decent stick...

One of my flight instructors told me never get 100% on the written test as the examiners will give you a tougher checkride.... :lol:

I have to give them credit for staying out to watch that. Also you could read her lips at one point saying "Wow" as they flew over.

As far as the cost of it, I agree that we in the US spend money flying folks around for dumb reasons. If our government felt like hiring the CAf or Berlin Airlift guys to do something, I would not be upset.

I guess it's just a difference in societies. The Brits have just a bit more flare and panache for celebrating something like this...embracing the history and making it part of the present.

If we tried this in America, the 'opposing party' would launch a Congressional investigation, and half of the tax-payers in the country would be up in arms to impeach the President.

I only WISH we could pull something like this off.

Well, for what it's worth...I know of an awful lot of 'decent stick' pilots who flunked tests and failed checkrides during their careers--myself included. And I agree...the 'better' you do, the more of a 'challenge' your instructors have to take you down a notch!

His current job is a search and rescue helicopter pilot which here in the UK covers the civil side as your Coast Guard does, wouldn't be doing that unless he was pretty good.
