I wanted to take a moment to plug an organization that I am helping move along in its endeavors. The Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum is an organization dedicated to the preservation of the history of Aviation in the Chesapeake Bay Region. Based at Martin State Airport, the museum has been going strong for 15 years. Some recent achievements are:

-A monthly speaker series. Held during the first or second Monday's of each month, the museum has held many very interesting talks. The most recent talk was by V22 Osprey test pilot LTC Kevin Gross, and later this year, we will have Norm Birzer talk about his experiences flying Vought A7 Corsair II's in Vietnam, and Roger Thiel talk about the Civil Air Patrol flying combat missions against U Boats during WWII.

-Airfest, held October 2nd 2004, helped Baltimore County Maryland celebrate the efforts of rescuers during Hurricane Isabel, raise funds to assist victims of the disaster, and showcase the collection and efforts of the museum. We are planning another event in the Spring of 2006.

-Restoration and Storage Facility. The museum is moving toward building a new, much larger restoration, storage and display facility. We are working hard to raise public awareness and capital to meet this acute need of our collections and operations, which are increasing at a tempo far beyond the capacity of our curret facilities.

We need help! If you live in the Baltimore/Washington/Philadelphia corridor, we would like to have you attend and participate in our activities. Presently we are in need of the following skills, but anybody with an interest is invited to join the museum and participate:
1. Docents, to tend the museum during opening hours
2. A/P IA, and those skilled or interested in learning how to maintain aircraft
3. Experienced Fund Raisers
4. Aviation Education
5. Marketing
6. Graphic Artists
7. Architects
8. Exhibition/Event Planners

In addition, the museum seeks artifacts, documentation, souvenirs and aircraft related to the aviation history of the Chesapeake Region. This includes but is not limited to Glenn L. Martin, Fairchild, Engineering Research Company, Kreider Reisner, Eastern Aircraft Division of General Motors Corporation, Koppers Company, North American Aviation, Patuxent and Anacostia Naval Air Station, the Nike Ajax Missile Program, Harbor Field, Logan Field, Curtiss Field (now Pimlico Racetrack), and anything else which pertains to Aviation in Maryland and the Greater Chesapeake region.

Our website is http://www.marylandaviationmuseum.org, or you can call us at 410-682-6122 to arrange a visit or contact us. Alternately, you can contact me through PM on this board.

Thanks for your support and hope to see you there one day!
