The September 2011 Desktop Calendars and Wallpapers are now available from the Warbird Depot website (

1. Matt Jackson flying the Sanders Family’s P&W R-4360 powered, 4,000 horsepower, Hawker Sea Fury T Mk.20 “Dreadnought” over Ione, CA on September 8th, 2010.
2. Jimmy Leeward flying his highly modified N.A. P-51D Mustang “The Galloping Ghost’ over Minden, NV in September 2010.
3. Brant Seghetti flying his N.A. P-51D Mustang “Sparky” (sponsored by Jelly Belly) in the pole position with the T-33 pace plane flown by Steve Hinton for the Silver heat race on Saturday, September 18 at the 2010 National Championship Air Races held at Stead Field in Reno, NV. The 2011 National Championship Air Races are September 14-18.
4. AT-6A Texan "Gunslinger" flown by Vic McMann at the 2010 National Championship Air Races. McMann finished 5th in the T-6 Gold class race. The race was cancelled due to high winds and final positions were based on the results of Saturday’s Gold heat race where McMann posted an average speed of 222.565 mph.
5. Stewart Dawson rounds pylon 2 in Rod Lewis' Grumman F7F-3 Tigercat "Here Kitty Kitty" at the 2010 National Championship Air Races. Sunday’s Unlimited Gold class race was cancelled due to high winds so final positions were based on the results of Saturday’s Gold Heat race where Dawson placed 5th at 354.521 mph.
6. Mark Watt rounding pylon 4, during Thursday's Unlimited Silver heat 1A race at the 2010 National Championship Air Races, Reno, NV. Mark is flying Chuck Greenhill's North American P-51D Mustang N5500S "Geraldine" in the markings of Charles "Chuck" Cummins of the 361st FG, 375th FS.
7. Pitts LHN "Zipper" rounds a pylon at the 2010 National Championship Air Races. Flown by George Andre "Zipper" finished 6th in Sunday’s Biplane Gold class race with an average speed of 185.587 mph.
8. Scott Nelson is seen rounding a pylon at the 2010 National Championship Air Races in Glasair C-GRON, race #41. Nelson finished 7th in Sunday’s Gold Sport Class race with an average speed of 270.032 mph.
9. Dan Peters is seen racing Cassutt III M "Route 66" to a 5th place finish at the 2010 National Championship Air Races Formula One Silver class race. Peters posted an average speed of 180.728 in the race.
10. Seen on the ramp at the 1970 National Championship Air Races is Hawker Sea Fury FB 11 WG567. Registered N878M and named Miss Merced #87, it was owned and raced by William "Sherm" Cooper, an orthodontist from Merced, CA. Cooper qualified 10th at 355.477 mph. He went on to win the Harrah's Club Silver Consolation race at an average speed of 361.801 mph.
11. Seen at the 1971 United States Cup Race at Brown Field, San Diego, CA is Lyle Shelton’s F8F-2 Bearcat Phoenix I (now Rare Bear). Equipped with a new low profile canopy and drop tanks off of a Douglas A4D, Shelton placed 4th in the 1000 mile, 100 lap race held on July 18th, 1971 in 3 hours 2 minutes and 27.8 seconds. The race was won by William “Sherm” Cooper in Sea Fury "Miss Merced" in 3 hours 1 minute and 45.2 seconds at an average speed of 330.1 mph.
12. Ed Weiner's N.A. P-51D Mustang (44-74506 N335J Ex RCAF 9231) "Bardahl Miss" (race 49) taxiing at Reno, 20 Sept 1968. Two days later while racing in the unlimited championship Weiner and race 49 dropped out at lap 7 with a mechanical problem. A year later while competing in the 1969 unlimited heat 1, Weiner suffered a heart attack during the race, pulled out and died one week later in a Reno hospital. This Mustang is now N151FT registered to Frederick W. Telling of Port Orange, Florida.
