If you own a warbird and wish to paint it in some sort of military scheme, do yourself a favor and do it right, or as close to right. I get the rationalization of shinny vs drab, but at least get it right. If you don't, you simply look foolish to many of us who have all the right in the world to critique your airplane. Sorry but we do. yep it's not our plane and not our money but it still allows us to bash it if we want, either here on WIX or anywhere. Come on! a P-51 with stars and bars with a red line in the middle with invasion stripes? Why bother to paint it in some half-*ss military scheme that never existed. Just paint it in some civilian scheme instead if you can't get it right. Why spend $$$$$$$ to restore it and then paint it like a turd? Yes I'm sick of the whining about paint schemes too but it's not all our faults on WIX. We're supposed to be critical here, that's why we come here so we can share our ideas, interests, history, logic, experience, experiences, and most of all our God given right (according to WIX rules) to express our opinions in a logical and respectful way. I respectfully submit that we of WIX be allowed to express our opinions about those who own warbirds, spend countless amounts of money to restore them, carefully caretake them and then insult them with terrible paint schemes. I stand up and walk out of the room, who is to follow me? ... (think of animal house... nananananana) lol

I wouldn't mind an end to endless paint scheme bitching. Who's restoring what out there? What old airplane has been discovered in a lake? When does the next P-47 or P-38 return to flight?

Another forum on the net loves accurate paint scheme discussions. So if some from wix that think paint and markings was not important then you would end up being the minority there. EVERY forum has a niche.haha  It's sad when you can't just discuss an interesting topic without fearing being picked on or made out as some "wanna-be" ummm, yeah that is a good excuse! :?

Nathan,
That's not true here. It's HOW you discuss it that becomes a problem, not the discussion itself.

Oh yes, paint schemes. My favorite. I did three beautiful take-offs and landings in my FLYING L-5 today. Funny thing, the paint didn't even cross my mind.

Get your horsewhips out, boys, cause there's no way that dead, decaying, rotting corpse of a horse could possibly be beaten enough.... We gots to beat it some mo'.

Actually, on a different tack, let me say this. If somebody who is a paint sexpert here actually goes out, starts a free paint shop, learns how to ACTUALLY put a paint job on an aircraft, then volunteers the time, materials, and transit costs to paint a WWII aircraft, I will be the first one to campaign to owners to take their airplanes to your shop. And it better be right, because if it isn't, you'll get to repaint it again. At your expense in time, materials and money. Anybody up for that challenge?

I think it's a silly thing to get all spooled up about - it's only paint, after all. Where is the harm in having a screwed up paint job? If whoever is paying for the paint job is satisfied, then great - it's his/her money. Honestly - get a grip.
