Warbird Information Exchange

So my father and I were able to sneak down to Monroe, North Carolina this past weekend for the Warriors & Warbirds Airshow. A great event that is still fairly new. (6th year running I believe). It definitely is growing and is a little reminiscent of how Geneseo's Wings of Eagles Airshow got started. Got to meet Matt Jolley finally in the flesh along with Bob Russell (Organizer for the show) along with a TON of other pilots and veterans. It was also nice to see Pyro again as its been along time for me. So without further ado, heres the roster of planes (as I can remember) from the show along with some crappy pics. Keep in mind i was using a little point and shoot. Don't ask me why I ended up doing so many tail shots. Maybe due to the overwhelming amount of people just walking aimlessly around.

What's up with the mini C-130? Looks like it would actually drive around!

That was Joe and his T-28. Didn't get to find him and talk to him but loved his performance. My dad and I loved all the aircraft really, but that mini C-130 was awesome! Don't think it was drivable but MAN what a cool rig! It came from the Charlotte ANG hence the large semi trailer in the back to transport it. You could tell it was built by C-130 mechanics. All the features were there and I wouldn't be surprised if some parts came from a real C-130!

I also talked to some of the Tora pyro team and they remember fondly coming up to Stratford. They said they'd love to come back too!!! Hint Hint.

I agree - that is the coolest "mini" C-130 I have ever seen!!

I am a bit jealous of the East coast for one reason. It seems that there are a ton of warbirds all within a reasonable range of almost any event!! Out here (Wendover, UT) we could never afford all those planes as the ferry fuel alone would be too costly. sigh.

NICE list of aircraft, but I am curious as to how many on this list actually flew as performers on Saturday and Sunday or were just statics (Making it necessary to be present for arrival or departure to see in the air). I have no doubt the C-54 was static - it VERY rarely flies during any air show.

The only aircraft that didn't fly on this list were:

Actually, Matt took off for home in the L2 on Sunday just before the show started and held her down so we could get pics. The Royal Netherlands Navy AT-11 was on static display Sunday only. Also, Sunday the Spitfire had what I assume is a mechanical issue during run up, taxied back in and did not fly.

First time to this show, and I really liked the "small-show" feel to what was a great collection of aircraft. Great access to the planes, up close and personal contact with pilots/crew, easy in and out of the airport...definitely worth the trip. My friends in the car in front of us who hit the deer Friday night on the way over from Knoxville might see it differently, but I'll definitely be back.

Warriors and Warbirds put on a fabulous show. Excellent turnout of both Warriors and Warbirds. Made the Saturday show and picked up several autographs before enjoying some great flying. Spent time with some old and new friends. Picked up three planes for my bucket list. Stayed late and watched Matt Younkin do his excellent night flying routine followed by fireworks. The folks in Monroe, NC put on a must-see show!
