My good friend Jim Flemming [was a Sgt pilot then and retired as an Air-Vice Marshall] flying in Korea 1950 with No 77 Sqn RAAF

Jim and his trusty steed,,,,note the green gear doors..

Jim had an amazing career flying P-40's in WW2, P-51's and Meteors in Korea, F-100's and F-104's on exchange with USAF plus CAC Sabres and Mirages. He also put in a few hours on Mosquitos, Beaufighters, F-15, F-16... {9,000+ fighter hours}

I tried to recopy that exact pose of the leaning on the Mustang at a heritage flightgear photoshoot 2years ago in Hunter Valley of NSW..with the Col / Ross Pay CAC Mustang.

http://heritageflightgeardisplays.wordp ... sept-2009/ scroll down to the Mustang photoshoot to see my attempt.

It is a P-51D not a CAC product. The RAAF did not use CAC machines in Korea.

The RNZAF Mustangs (US-built) had the same coloured interiors on the gear doors, it was more a yellow-green on better light.

What is a "two star Air-Vice Marshall"?

Anything like an Air Vice Marshal? Where do the stars come in?

Stars denote the rank level. Air Commodore = Brigadier = Commodore = 1 Star
Air-Vice Marshall = Major General = Rear Admiral = 2 Star

etc. It is a uniform way of denoting rank particularly between countries that may use different titles for equivalent rank.

The school cadets teach this..

RAAF Star plates

Air Commodore Star Plate. The Air Commodore star plate has one silver star in the centre,

Air Vice Marshal Star Plate. The Air Vice Marshal star plate has two silver stars in the centre

Air Marshal Star Plate. The Air Marshal star plate has three silver stars in the centre

Air Chief Marshal Star Plate. The Air Chief Marshal star plate has four silver stars in the centre

I have never heard of stars being used to rate British Commonwealth country's Air Staff ranks, which is why I enquired, but then I was never in school cadets. I was in the Air Force though, so know the correct way to spell Marshal.
