Right... Because she would need a make-up jar on a deserted island with one other guy and a bunch of crabs...

It's possible that that's where they ended up, but unless they recover bones/DNA or verifiable pieces of a very specific twin engined Lockheed, it's all just circumstancial.

One of the comments on the article is interesting......

Quote:
There is a problem with this theory. A libel suit was brought forth by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1911 for misbranding of C. H Berry's Freckle Ointment. It was promoted as containing nothing harmful when in fact it contained approximately 12 percent ammoniated mercury and 0.7 percent zinc oxide. By court order, the jars were confiscated and destroyed. Therefore, it's unlikely she would have a 20-year-old plus jar of C. H Berry's Freckle Ointment.
They should research and find the manufacture of the jar containing the C. H Berry's Freckle Ointment. They may have used the glass mold for jar manufacturing for another company.

There also forgeting that most (If not all) of what they are finding were remains from the castaways from the ship that got stuck there. not everything they find is Amelia's. (probly none of what there finding is hers anyways)

The jar belonged to Ginger. Or Mrs. Howell.

I thought TIGHAR was going to quickly wrap this up with that landing gear in the water picture.

It's all gone quiet.. geek

From the article: Emphasis added.
"The problem we have in precisely identifying the jar is that all the examples we have found come in opaque white glass. The artifact jar is clear glass," said Cerniglia.
So far, the researchers have not been able to match the exact size of the artifact jar to a known jar of Dr.‭ ‬Berry's product.‭
"The reassembled artifact jar does,‭ ‬however,‭ ‬fit nicely in a box in which freckle cream was marketed.‭ ‬The known Dr.‭ ‬Berry jars do not.‭ ‬So we know there was a jar of Dr.‭ ‬Berry's Freckle Ointment of the same size as the artifact jar,‭ ‬but we don't know whether it was clear glass," Gillespie said. "

Okay we have a jar the same shape as a freckle cream jar, but in the wrong color and possibly size.
We know that AE had freckles and reportedly disliked them.

But any proof that she used the product?
Indeed, was it still being sold in 1937?
And proof that, she disliked the freckles enough to use a mercury solution to get rid of them?
Any proof she used other patent medicines instead of high class cosmetics?
What was the price point for Dr. Berry's product? AE had money, shoe wouldn't have bought dime store or street corner stuff.
Did she take the product on her ill-fated trip? Did she take along many beauty aids?

Did any other firms use the bottle? I'm no expert, but I bet the jar saw used by other firms as well.
So the jar could have been used for just about anything. If it didn't match a freckle jar, would TIGHAR have claimed it was a makup jar and offered the explanation that
"AE was a woman. Most women use make-up, therefore it might have been hers".
Seems that they're not offerering any more facts that the more general theory I just outlined. But they would have been laughed at by a reporter for offering the make-up theory.

Talk about circumstancial. Even the dumbest/laziest/most corrupt DA on the planet wouldn't put this in front of a jury.

But TIGHAR, snake-oil salesmem they increasingly appear to be, trumpet this "find" like it was her mummified body with a passport in the pocket.

I'm a polite skeptic, but their grasping at straws in front of the media is beginning to pi$$ me off.

You'd think an outfit that depends on donations for its funding, would have enough PR savvy to hold off on announcing a "find" until they had a bit more to go on.
Really, even their supporters must be embarassed by this one.

Family and school friends of Amelia Earhart still recall her childhood love of the beach and playing in the sand on family outings, and running bare foot through the beach.

Research and exploration by world reknowned investigators of TIGGER on the remote island of Nikumaroro in the South Pacific have found large amounts of sand next to a castway's campsite on the island, proving conclusively that this is the final resting place of Amelia Earhart.

- Richard Gilligan the first mate of TIGGER states "clearly - there is no other plausable explanation for all that sand to be there, other than due to Amelia's great love for playing in it as a child".

TIGGER is planning another expedition to further investigate the sand to determine if it was sourced locally by Earhart, or carried with her in the Lockheed aircraft, and to determine if foot prints in the sand found near the campsite are the same size as a womans shoe found elsewhere on the island and already conclusively proven to be Earharts because she is known to have worn womens shoes.

Donations and sponsorship is now being sort by TIGGER.

smiles

In 1937, Herndon aided in one of the country's most famous search operations. He participated in the USS Colorado's search for Amelia Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan after the aviators' attempt to fly around the world turned catastrophic. They vanished over the Pacific Ocean July 2, 1937, near remote Howland Island where they were expected to land.

According to Herndon's letter, crews fueled the Coast Guard Cutter Itasca, the Swan and the destroyers Cushing, Lamson and Drayton after crossing the Equator.

A correspondent aboard the ship later wrote: "As island after island was covered and the reports came in from the planes that no sign of human life existed on the islands, hope faded ... All land areas within 450 miles of Howland have been carefully combed" in addition to thousands of miles of open water.

Got to keep the hype and hysteria going. (Because there is really nothing to find there, except more money in somebody's pocket).

By the way, folks, it was 75 years ago, today.
