I have a data plate with some info other than the SNV-2 Navy Bureau Number. Info on tag indicates Serial 9-1059, Model SNV-2, Date Mfd 2-24-44, M.A.A. Plate No. 89113. I had written to the Manufacturer many years ago, but they couldn't help me.
Also - Is there a source of the manufacturers part number code list, example - parts beginning with 63 & 73 are BT-13 parts - any suggestions on a source? :?
Leon

Mike - Thanks for quick reply. I took your advise and tried the site. I immediately received a threat warning from computer and closed out site after threat removal. I checked Joe Baughers web site on Serial numbers and it appears there are 2 blocks of numbers that SNV-2's fall into, but I get no clue after reviewing them.....Leon

Maybe you could contact one of the SNV-1, -2 owners and get a Serial number from their aircraft and then do a bit of "cipherin" to get your BuNo.

The USN also obtained 650 Model 79A SNV-2s (BuNo. 44038 to 44187, 52050 to 52549), which differed only in having 24-volt electric systems. These were BT-13Bs diverted from USAAF contracts (s/n 44-32011 to 44-23160,
44-31511 to 44-32010 respectively), hence the pictured SNV-2 with USN Flight Instructor Keith F. Lawler in rear cockpit, was produced under the USAAF s/n 44-31695 as a BT-13B.

Found info including registration #'s and msn's for 49 of them by GOOGLING VULTEE SNV-2, selecting the link 'SNV-2 search by model' in airport data.com-might help.
Other related plowing around brings up a great deal of very interesting info about the company and Downey, CA. Check the 'Abandoned and Little known airfields' site for Downey field. This may be old hat to you but they built over 11500 of the little buggers-

Mike & Inspector: Great tips - but so far no luck. Some manufacture id's close, but would only be a guess as to real BuNo. Sites that I have checked on before don't usually list a construction number with BuNo, but may list FAA registration N number....Thanks for your help; I still am looking into your hints....Leon

79-999, also built 1944
http://www.bt-13.org/44-79-999/44-79-999.html

9-1059 built 02/24/44

79-1421 built 04/08/44 BuNo 44126
http://bt-13.org/newhome/?p=287

I would contact these owners and do some math.

If you scroll down there is a production chart, only 304 SNV-2's in 1944.

Just a historical note, the former VULTEE factory which started out as the site of EMSCO Aircraft went through more owners than a 55 CHEVY, eventually winding up as a Boeing facility used for one of the Space Shutle mockups and is now DOWNEY STUDIOS still used today as an active movie/TV studio. geek

Vultee c/nos. 79-1052 to 79-1085 correspond to Bu. Nos. 52516 to 52549. These serial numbers apparently come from a 1945 Vultee service document. As far as I know the serial tie-ups run in a logical order and therefore 79-1059 would be SNV-2 52523.
79-1059, Bu.52523 was once NC52629.
Hope this helps, Tony Broadhurst

Thanks to everyone with your input. There is always some sort of information that comes forth that is new to me. Your input Tony hits the nail on the head. The SNV-2 in question was obtained from Ron Otto, at the time in Clintonville Wisconsin. I'll have to check on the registration of NC52629 to see if the Vibrator may have had its final days in Wisconsin.
I appreciate the various web sites mentioned above for future references...... 8) 8)

If you use the link below, you can request a copy of the Aircraft History Card for BuNo 52523. It will show up at your door in a couple of weeks.
