On June 20th Platinum Fighter Sales posted that the CAC Wirraway was sold to a new owner. Anyone have an idea? I mean.... I do.... but I'd like to see what you guys think.

Hello Chris

I hadnt seen that Murray's Wirraway was on the market let alone already sold, and I'm not sure of the seriousness of your question as "I think" you "might" be alluding to the uncanny resemblance of the pilot to John Belushi? other than not having a cigar?

On a more serious note, I dont know who has purchased it, but I would strongly hope the RAAF Museum has had some end of financial year spare cash, and purchased it for their historical flight to replace the airworthy Harvard that was damaged and sold earlier this year, as they already had a static example, and its an iconic type missing from their airworthy collection.

Regards

Mark Pilkington

It's definitely off to Florida to keep the owner's other Wirraway company...

Such is the folly of the aircraft restoration at times, KW has bought this Wirraway for about half the amount it cost the previous owner to rebuild. A smart move.
It's a very authentic restoration and I believe, the last Wirraway rebuilt by Ron Lee.
Unfortunately, this is also one of the reasons my own Wirraway project sits in the shed. It's basically worth nothing and would cost me vast sums of money that I just don't have, for a paltry return. I spend my hard earned cash on Avians now...
