Aussie F-111s now repainted in 1970s scheme

An interesting link showing up to 5 of the soon to be donated to museums across Australia, F-111s in their beautiful TO..114 camo scheme recently restored at RAAF Amberley.

The tan, medium green and dark green scheme are superbly redone and suit the F-111.

Other than the late 60's Grey and white scheme, the SEA configuration is the best scheme for the Aardvark. Lovely.

Wow! Those Aardvarks look great!

Glad to see another instance of those who fought in the Vietnam conflict getting some very deserved recognition and respect.

Don't they look just superb........HARS Museum here in Wollongong has been allocated A8-109 which is Ex USAF F-111A 67-109.

The RAAF took her on board as an attrition replacement.......the RAAF converted her to a F-111C with longer wings and heavier undercarriage.

She is a genuine USAF Vietnam veteran and was the last F111 to ever take off ....when she launched with other F111's in their final farewell fly past in December 2010.

They look incredible! I compliment our Australian Cousins for taking the time and do things right before sending them out to their new homes. It says volumes about the RAAF.

As I understand the situation the answer to that question is....... yes.

Which is a 1st class contribution by the Australian Government and speaks volumes to the professionalism of the RAAF senior command ....many of whom are former "PIG" drivers (F111 pilots) to still allow the public to view what many people (including this writer) still believe was the greatest strike aircraft ever built.

I also understand that the USAF still had input into who would be allowed to receive aircraft. Key issue's considered was that each museum had lockable secure facilities, and under-cover display to protect the freshly re-painted aircraft from the weather.

Further, the F111C's are to be disassembled and trucked around Australia to their new homes and then re-assembled on site by the RAAF.

Engine cores have been removed but with front and rear turbines left in place to give the casual observer the impression that the engines are fully still in place.

We at HARS are incredibly proud of our selection........... and especially proud of being picked to receive a historically significant genuine Ex USAF Vietnam veteran.
