1530 CST (15 Nov 2012) a F-22 Raptor went down on base at Tyndall AFB close to the drone runway, pilot ejected and is safe. Not much more being released at this time.

Glad the jock wasn't hurt too bad. If this crash occured where I think it did, plenty of people along a public road could have seen it.

True seeing you can see the drone runway from highway 98 that runs right through Tyndall.

Apparently he had an issue about 5 miles out of Tyndall AFB and was returning to the base when the mishap occured. For those who don't know how Tyndall AFB is situated, hwy 98 runs right through the base, on one side of the highway is the flightline side of the base, the other side of the highway is all the base support facilities and base housing. The drone runway can be seen from the highway, early reports state that debris from the crash littered the highway and that the crash itself was inside the fence of the base. The biggest thing is that the pilot got out safely.
