If I had the cash It would be in the shop to be flown ASAP. Id be living in the USVI for sure :) I can only imagine what 13 years sitting on an island in the salt air has done to the airframe.

the most deceiving detail about the pby is it's size. to look at a photo of 1 & say....... yes i can handle that, & then stand in front of it & see how massive it actually is!! reality hits fast!!

Chris: it is N7238Z, PBY-5A c/n 1774, ex-BuAer48412, N10024, N96R, YV-P-EPX, YV-P-EPZ, YV-O-CFO-4, YV-56CP, YV-585CP and YV-485C. This is not the first time it has appeared on e-Bay.

My CG aircraft source says that PBY (48412) was a one time Coast Guard plane between May 9, 1946 and March 12, 1954. It was returned to the USN after CG use. While in CG service it was designated as a PBY-5AG.

If it is indeed the 48412, someone with deep pockets got it, they could put it back in CG colors of that era and be historically accurate.

That triggered a memory - I found some photos I saved from a 2007 auction; same plane but in a hangar and had little red spots of paint that were supposedly indicators of where corrosion was found. There were a lot of those little spots.

OK - so lets say $25K to $30K wins it. Then you are going to have to spend $100K to get her to ferry status I would assume. . . .would it be easier to buy overhauled engines and just take them down with you to install rather than try and muck with the ones already mounted? Cool plane but the $$ signs keep getting bigger and bigger .

So then would it be a "steal" for $10,000?

looked at the listing again; someone asked a question about the engines and the answer is definately a big, "needs fresh engines" as the log books are "weak" at best. Still it is a PBY!

How much would it be worth if someone were selling it for parts (due to corrosion)? Would it be more or less than $20,000?

I'm asking because I need some $$$ for my racing.. lol...
