I stopped by Chino yesterday and I took a quick drive around the hangars and noticed a set of B-17 wings sitting outside AeroTrader. I was told that those wings belong to Swamp Ghost. Does anyone know who has the plane and will be restoring it?

On a side note, on Facebook I saw Kermit Weeks posted pics that he visited Aero Trader yesterday to check on his A-26. I can't wait to see it finished and painted. Does AeroTrader do their own painting in one of those hangars?

Stephen

Swap Ghost is headed to the Museum at Pearl Harbor. Kermit was checking on his A-26 at AeroTrader.

Thanks Bryan. I just saw my error on Kermit's a/c and fixed it. Any time frame on when the Invader will be finished?

The aft fuselage is also behind the fence at Aero Trader. My understanding is that the aircraft will be placed on display unrestored in Hawaii.

I think they do all their painting inside their hangar.

Just for what it is worth, I might direct attention to the January 2013 update to B-17 News at aerovintage.com. The B-17E was supposed to have moved by now, but I guess not.

Stephen, you got correct answers on the B-17.....Did you get a chance to take a tour of Aero Trader? They have some real cool stuff scattered around the place. For a real treat, their storage in Borrego Springs is a hoot!

I have never toured AeroTrader or behind the hangar, although I wouldn't mind doing that sometime.

I know I would love to tour their shop and their storage yard. Does any one have the coordinates for the Borrego Springs storage site? I've tired finding it on google and I can never find it

I as well as several others know where it is and with a little home work I am sure you will find it but please lets not put it out there for obvious reasons.

*edit byWIXMOD-Baker* Link and details removed, as the legitimate people have it by now, and the thieves who scan forums shouldn't get an easy set of directions.

I didn't know my simple asking for a little direction to see the aerial shot of the storage yard would be such a big deal. I totally understand its their property and as such that it is used to do truly amazing work. I completely respect that, as when I went to a volunteer orientation class, one other person there asked a certain collector close to my Home IN Virginia, "do you have a published list of your full collection" and he kindly said "No, I don't do that because part prices sky rocket and they disappear at a fair faster rate". So I totally get the fact it should've been sent in a Pm to me and I wouldn't go snooping on private property. My statement was more a long the lines of a fan of their great work, to more or less say I could get lost just wondering around to take in the fact that such a group of men aspire to save these aircraft that we so love and cherish. And I hope the OP will remove it so there is not any problems. Or have a MOD remove the link and coordinates.

It would be nice if Aero Trader had a Facebook page or a website to see their work. They don't, but eventually we'll see it when its finished, be patient.

It is funny how on occasion I hear word of mouth stories about a massive site "somewhere in the Mojave Desert" where tons of aircraft are sitting in storage. Not sure if there was one source or many, but all the stories seem to be about the same and probably refer to this storage site.

I suspect these stories start when people see the photos of Kingman. There remains the impression among the general public that there are still vast fields of stored surplus World War II airplanes out there, and usually it is "somewhere" in the desert and it's true because Harriet's brother-in-law saw it himself.

Uh, yeah, maybe that. Or maybe people could be talking about the site in the Mojave Desert where tons of aircraft are sitting in storage. People still remember the "Take My Breath Away" video filmed in that boneyard. And it's still there, even if maybe the older planes have gone the way of the band's hairstyles.
