Hi All - my first post in this forum

I'm interested in a B-24 called "Joplin Jalopy" (B-24J-1-FO 42-50535 ex-506BS 44BG 8AF)

There's a picture of the nose-art at http://www.b24bestweb.com/joplinjalopy.htm

I was reading about it an a copy of FlyPast and was intrigued to find (a) it survived the war and (b) it was preserved / exhibited at what is now the Joplin Regional Airport in Joplin, MO until the late 50s when it was scrapped. Joplin's about 30 miles from where I live. Someone once said to me "there was an old bomber at the airport" but to be honest I didn't believe him. How wrong was that?

Does anyone here know anything more about it or better still have some post-war pictures? I am going to start making some local enquiries Real Soon Now but thought I might ask here first.

Rob / Kansan

Rob:

The people at the airport terminal in Joplin were very helpful to me and to Dr. Gary Kuhn a few years ago.

During one of my visits there (I have friends in Carl Junction), I visited the airport, and noticed a photo hanging on one of the walls, depicting Charles Lindbergh and an airplane with mexican registration.

Dr. Kuhn contacted them, and they provided a copy of the photo.

I would like to say that I recall seeing the B-24, or a photo, but truth is I have not.

Good luck with your search.

Saludos,

Tulio
