This leads me to believe that the former National Warplane Museum, now known as Wings of Eagles Discovery Center, is in a lot worse shape financially that assumed before.

WOW !

This surprises me for several reasons. Notwithstanding that ANY collection that boasts a B-17 in it must be a collection of serious merit. And secondly, one would think that the EAA, while Aluminum Overcast is on the ground for repair work since the gear collapse, would have in some way supported the folks who own Fuddy Duddy to the extent that the operating expenses of Fuddy Duddy would have been taken care of.

Just my thought though.any one else ?

I wonder what NYS has too say about this, NWPM took a bunch of Money from the state and that interfered with the last sale if I recall correctly.

My dream would be to see Fuddy Duddy returned to it's home at Geneseo, NY. Let me go see what is in my Piggy Bank.

I believe the last outright sale was "Miss Angela" (at the time known as "Miss Museum of Flying") at the 1991? Museum of Flying Auction in Santa Monica... I can't recall the price though (Anyone? Anyone?)

Of course, there was also the inside sale of the Liberty Belle to Don Brooks from Reilly within the past few years, though I don't know the details of that one either!

I think we can count on quite a few warbird sales. I'm hearing in my travels about stuff people haven't seen for years going on sale. All levels from bargain stuff all the way to big expensive. Sorry to hear about this. They should have stayed at Geneseo...

I bet you guys visit this site on a regular basis, if so the "old" page may be in your computer's cache and that is what is being displayed instead of the "new" page on the other side of you internet connection. Go to the page, click the refresh button (on MS Explorer is it two green half circle arrows), and the new page should appear after a pause for you computer to down load the new page.

Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

My thoughts are that unlike the AT-6 or T-34 sale profile, the B-17 is being worked on by Courtesy with a select pool of interested parties only... not many have the ability to come out of the woodwork and buy a B-17. I suspect there is a group of folks that Mr. Clark knows are interested in having a B-17 and he will work that group accordingly.

In any case, I am sure we'll see the plane go to a nice flying future... other than the time she has spent with EAA, she flew very rarely with the NWM/WOEDC before that and I am sure the good solid flyer will get in the air more. I suspect that this isn't a Paul Allen potential due to the fact he has the E model in restoration.

I think Paul Allen bought his B-17 outright from Whittington not too long ago. There are few museums that are looking for a B-17 and a couple of the bigger players have non flying collections. Fuddy Duddy needs alot of work to really bring it up to show standards and the asking is fair for a flying airplane.

I echo Tim's comments. It would sure be nice to see it back at home in Geneseo with Austin at the controls. I somehow doubt that will happen.
