Warbird Information Exchange

I thought since people were wondering about the B-47, I figured I would take a stroll on out there and take pictures. I took these today (9Nov). Also in the pictures are the afore mentioned F-4C (64-0763) used for testing, looking a bit long in the tooth. As well as F-4D (66-7626) which was removed from gate gaurd duty just last week. F-4D (66-7554) was also on display at the main gate, but I have not seen it since was removed. On the pedestals now are a F-16 and a F-15.

Wow...I just went by there last evening and didn't even know to look! I guess I'll pay more attention next time. Nice photos of the movement operation on the SkyWrighter website.
I must admit I'm a bit surprised they pulled down two birds that had been stationed at WP and replaced them with two that weren't. I can kinda understand the 16, since the 906th at least flew them, but the 15 ? Hmmmm. And God knows they don't need any more Phantoms at the museum. There are enough there now to start a new wing

I would venture to guess that some person in a postion of influence may have wanted them changed. Possibly the Base C.O. but that's just a guess. Perhaps the NMUSAF manages all those affairs for the different bases. The F-4s may have represented an image of an older USAF. So they wanted to replace them with more current aircraft. Actually when I firsts notice the F-4s were gone they were doing prep work to the pedestals. I asked the gate guard what was happening and he told me that they putting up a F-15 and a F-111. I guess he was a little in error or I heard him wrong. But atleast, like you mentioned, the F-16 has a connection to WPAFB.

I like the way Langley AFB has multiple aircraft of static display located all over the base. A few months ago I took a whole bunch photos. I've been meaning to post them as well as static aircraft from NAS Oceana.

Thanks for the pics. I've seen that F-4 kicking the Museum compound for years and had never seen things up close.

Not sure what your access to the base is, but any chance you can get some pics of the F-16 and F-15 and the MiG-29 at NASIC?

Nice shots, thanks! Brings back lots of memories as my Dad was A/C on 47's at Chennault in Lake Charles and Forbes in Topeka. I used to watch these all the time as a kid.

The ratty looking F-4 was used for imaging. they parked it on the runway and they had a laser on the tall tower you see in the far distance pick up the shape of the aircraft. Why I don't know

I'll see what I can do. Takeing pictures on the museum side of the base is one thing. Doing so elsewhere on the base might interfere with OPSEC. But I'll check in with base security before I do anything. They will more than likely be OK with it. Normally it's taking pictures of flightlines that they don't like. Yeah i noticed the Mig 29 a lil while back after getting back in town. What happen to the Mig 21 that used to be there? I hope the Foriegn Technologies folks still decorate the Mig for Xmas. I've always wanted to get pictures of Ole Rudolph.

Other aircraft I would like to document with pictures are some derlict aircraft on the west side of the active runway. Looks to be a C-130 and atleast another F-4. I think they are used for fire training and egress. I'll be in touch soon.

I never asked permission in the Navy, even when on airforce bases to take pictures. I also never had to ask forgiveness either. But that was the way I worked.

That is also why I have 4 or 5 photo albums full of pictures from the Navy, I always had a camera on me on the flight deck.

Shay,my assistant Fire Chief is also a district Chief on the base. He told me that the aircraft you mentioned are indeed used for fire training.
