The fuel tank that was hit is for the AZ Wing, the plane came to rest directly behind the fire/police station.

MESA, Ariz. -- No one was injured when a small plane crashed Tuesday afternoon at Falcon Field Airport in Mesa.

The single-engine Nanchang CJ-6 went down off the departure end of Runway 22R, around 4:20 p.m. after takeoff.

A wing apparently broke off and landed beside a fuel tank.

There was a small fuel spill after the crash, which occurred near the runway, according to the Mesa Fire and Medical Department.

Deputy Chief Forrest Smith said the pilot was doing touch-and-goes when she lost power on elevation. She was able to get the plane in a position to avoid going into buildings and out onto the traffic on McKellips Road.

Well, that s|_|cks, but it's fixable and most importantly, the pilot both minimized ground damage AND kept herself and her passenger intact. That's a success story in my book... well done, ma'am!

As a side note, it's a little surreal to see this right next to the trailer for Sentimental Journey, which was over here in Suffolk back in September.

With it being a common type and having both wings ripped off I would very much doubt it is fixable, far cheaper just to get another one. As you say though, the main thing is that nobody was seriously hurt.
