I have been doing some continuing research on the Duck Hunt and stumbled on a few interesting tidbits via few degrees of information separation. Figured I'd throw them out for those who follow these things.

First, I found this on the SDASM via the "Commons on Flickr".

This is a log/journal by a (1st)LT D.R. Bone. He just happened to be on the My Gal Sal when she went down in Greenland.

Then I followed his trail and it led to the 303rd BG, 358th BS and the H-e-l-l-'s Angels B-17 #41-24577. 1stLT Bone is on the far right, back row. He was the bombardier and credited with a FW-190 kill on one of the missions.

That led to the below site and the debate on the first heavy bomber to complete their 25 missions. The debate is how things are worded as to the claim as the "first". As some of you probably already knew this centered around the (B-17's) Memphis Belle, H-e-l-l-'s Angels and (B-24) Hot Shot .

This led to a post by a Monty Allen about 10 days ago. Note the date of May 1st, 1943 in relation to another "first":

The B-17 Delta Rebel II of the 91st BG, piloted by Capt.George Birdsong,Jr…. completed her 25th mission on May 1,1943. How do I know this for sure? I have the Bombardier Bob Abb’s flight log book….straight from his widow’s hand to mine twenty years ago…untouched…unmolested…and he recorded it in ink in his own hand. Just sayin…….

So....there's all the degrees of information separation following the trail of a Duck and ended with a "Delta" (so far). :)
